Country Report Brazil

The country report for Brazil by Arnaldo Walter, Paulo Dolzan and Erik Piacente. Brazil has tradition on biomass production and use. The country fulfils the main required conditions regarding large-scale production of biomass, such as land availability, adequate weather conditions, inexistency of particular constraints regarding labour and the domain both of biomass-production and biomass-conversion technologies in the agricultural and in the industrial sides. This report describes the Brazilian experience on large-scale production of ethanol and on wood from planted forests (including for charcoal production). Brazilian experiences and perspectives on international biotrade are also addressed.
