Research for the energy of the future – the
German Biomass Research Centre (DBFZ)

What is the best use of the potentials of bioenergy? To find answers to this question, the scientists of the DBFZ are looking for methods that facilitate an effective and sustainable use of solid, liquid
and gaseous bioenergy sources. To achieve this, DBFZ scientists are carrying out potential analyses, feasibility studies and practical tests in the laboratories of our research centre. The objectives
are to make the utilisation of bioenergy technically simpler and safer, environmentally friendlier and economically
more promising. The Federal German Government represented by the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection (BMELV) is the sole shareholder of the DBFZ. Other bodies of the organisation are the supervisory board and a scientific board. The supervisory board consists of representatives of the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection (BMELV), the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature
Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU), the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Affairs (BMVBS), the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the Saxonian State Ministry for the Environment and Agriculture (SMUL).
